Arkansas Behavioral Health Integration Network (ABHIN)

Sarah Bernes, PRISM’s Lead Training and Implementation Specialist (above), hosted a webinar for the Arkansas Behavioral Health Integration Network (ABHIN) in April 2024. ABHIN, founded in 2019, is a non-profit organization that aims to integrate behavioral health into primary care. They host a variety of webinars each month with attendees from across the country.

Bernes teamed up with Maria Muzik, M.D.,  Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Obstetrics & Gynecology at Michigan Medicine (above), whose work focuses on stress prevention and mental well-being for pregnant patients and their families. Their webinar, Collaborative Care Management in Perinatal Settings, highlighted current best practices in perinatal collaborative care and discussed how collaborative care delivery may differ when working with perinatal patients. For example, the presenters explored how the fluctuation of hormones in perinatal patients may affect their mental health, particularly in the case of Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) and Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) symptoms.

Attendees left this webinar with a deeper understanding of the Collaborative Care model, special considerations for perinatal patients, as well as how mental illness symptoms manifest differently in this population.
